The Nordic Council of Ministers' cooperation on fisheries and aquaculture

The Nordic Council of Ministers is divided into sectors with associated officials’ committees (EK).

EK-FJLS (Fisheries and Aquaculture) includes the Nordic Working Group for Fisheries and Aquaculture (AG-Fisk), which is the operative body for the committee and which manages the Fisheries Cooperation’s project portfolio.

Together, the committee of Government officials and the working group make up Nordic fisheries cooperation.

The fisheries cooperation works to strengthen Nordic cooperation on fisheries and aquaculture.

The goal is to put the sustainable use of marine resources, which significantly contributes to solutions to many global challenges, high on the agenda both politically, in research and in the public eye.

Nordic projects that relate to marine resources can apply for funding through the Fisheries Cooperation’s project funds.

The fisheries cooperation focuses on management and research based projects, and works for a sustainable fisheries and aquaculture sector in the Nordics, economically, socially and environmentally.

The fisheries cooperation focuses on environmental sustainability by, among other things, concretising the principle of ecosystem approximation in fisheries, promoting technological development in the sector and working for seafood as healthy food from a healthy marine environment.

The work with economic sustainability must, among other things, focus on the economic framework conditions that can increase value creation in the fisheries industries.

The work on social sustainability must promote the development of framework conditions that can ensure the welfare of fishermen and develop the future opportunities of coastal communities.
